Department/Program Overview:
The mission of the Division is to expand the
University’s relationship with its many publics
for purposes of increasing both the financial
and human resources of the University; to
maintain the goodwill and support of the
University’s many publics; and to market the
University, its programs and services to their
best possible advantage.
The purpose of the Associate Vice Chancellor for
University Relations is to develop and implement
a communication strategy that promotes and
enhances the university’s reputation and
contributes to the achievement of institutional
goals. The Associate Vice Chancellor for
University Relations is responsible for the
research, planning, implementation and
evaluation of communication programs targeted at
building affinity and increasing involvement and
financial support from key constituents for the
University. Scope of operation includes
university spokesperson, public relations
management, university’s branding and web
presence, and overall leadership of the
Department of University Relations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan, direct, coordinate, and execute all
aspects of the university’s strategic
branding, marketing and communications plans
and policies.

Represent the Division for Development and
University Relations on numerous university
committees.

Develop and justify annual budget including
requests for additional state and non-state
funds as needed.

Recruit and evaluate qualified professional
staff to work in the areas of media
relations, web development, graphic design,
marketing, publications and special event
planning.

Cultivate, develop and maintain a productive
working relationship with all parts of the
media by serving as the chief spokesperson
for the university.

Provide guidance to university senior
leadership, boards and personnel regarding
marketing/communications issues and raising
the university’s public visibility in
support of enrollment, fundraising and
institutional image building.

Manage crisis communications.

Carry out special projects as assigned by
the Vice Chancellor for Development and
University Relations.

Participate in strategy development and
implementation for the Division of
Development and University Relations and
other duties as assigned by the Vice
Chancellor for Development and University
Relations.
Qualifications:
-
Master’s
degree in Marketing, Marketing Management,
Communications or a related field.

A minimum of 8 years of progressive
experience in marketing management,
marketing communications, publications,
public relations and advertising is
required. Experience in leading an
integrated marketing staff, developing
strategic marketing plans, consistent with
the university’s strategic priorities.
Excellent communications, interpersonal,
creative leadership skills are required.

Applicant must also have management
experience with multiple reporting lines,
and the ability to take responsibility for
administering policies, planning and
purchasing, administering and managing
marketing/communications operating budgets.
