Department/Program Overview:
Mission:
The primary mission of the Center of Excellence
for Post Harvest Technologies (COEPHT) in the
School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences
(SAES) is to develop and improve post harvest
technologies while concurrently creating
synergistic collaborations with other partners
at the North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC) to
enable breakthrough in science that generates
new knowledge which results in creating new jobs
and improved quality of life for citizens in NC,
in the U.S. and abroad. In addition, the Center
will ensure adoption of research discoveries by
end users to meet their needs in diverse areas
of post harvest technologies including quality
and nutritional value, value-added processing,
food safety, and economic aspects.
Vision: The vision of COEPHT is to become a
premier centre of excellence in post harvest
technology research through development of
effective and cost-attractive post harvest
technologies for agricultural commodities,
particularly fruits and vegetables.
Goals:
The COEPHT will develop a program focused on
post harvest technologies including research
pertaining to processing, preservation, consumer
research, recovery of health promoting food
components, food safety issues, storage
stability and quality, and value-added product
development for food and non-food uses. The
program will create new jobs and enhance
economic opportunities to the agricultural
sector of the State of North Carolina along all
components of the supply line from producers to
consumers.
Primary Duties and
Responsibilities:
The Center Director is expected
to provide visionary leadership and strategic
management to foster excellence in the
operation, productivity, and continued
improvement for the COEPHT. Leadership and
management responsibilities include developing
and implementing research priorities, engaging
in strategic planning, coordinating proposal
development and preparation, coordinating plans
of work and budget preparation, managing human
and financial resources and directing
collaborative research efforts with scientists
at the participating universities at the North
Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, NC.
Qualifications:
Applicant must
have an earned Ph.D. in the agricultural, family
and environmental sciences, life sciences or a
related discipline. The applicant must also
have relevant administrative experience with
significant evidence of effective leadership and
management, evidence of skills in team building
and problem solving, successful experience in
budget management, grantsmanship, and the
demonstrated ability to develop and maintain
relationships with internal and external
stakeholders and funding agencies.
