Department/Program Overview:
The Department Of Family And Consumer Sciences
is one of four academic departments within the
School Of Agriculture and Environmental
Sciences. The department offers Bachelor of
Science degrees in four program areas with the
following six distinct specialty emphases: child
development and family studies (non-licensure),
child development early education and family
studies (birth-kindergarten licensure), family
and consumer sciences education, fashion
merchandising and design, food and nutritional
sciences (dietetics) and food and nutritional
sciences (food science). The Food and
Nutritional Sciences program has an accredited
Didactic Program in Dietetics. Additionally, the
department offers a Master of Science degree in
food and nutritional science and a Master of
Arts in Teaching in family and consumer sciences
education. Faculty members are actively engaged
in research that contributes to the body of
knowledge in the areas of nutrition, food
science, housing, apparel, textiles and family
issues.
Primary Duties and
Responsibilities:
Teaching undergraduate and
graduate courses in nutrition, dietetics, and
food service systems management; developing a
research program in nutrition and dietetics and
securing external grants; advising graduate and
undergraduate students, participating in
curriculum development; collaborating with
faculty on research and creative scholarship
activities; serving on departmental, school and
university committees and participating in other
academic functions. This is a 9-month,
tenure-track appointment.
Qualifications:
Earned doctorate from an accredited university
in human nutrition/dietetics, food and
nutrition, food science or closely related
field; demonstrated ability to teach graduate
and undergraduate courses related to nutrition,
dietetics, and food service systems management;
experience with student advising and mentoring;
strong technology skills related to food and
nutrition; documented record of scholarly
achievement and grant writing experience.
Registered Dietitian preferred.
