Title: Assistant Professor, Fashion Merchandising and Design
Dept: Family and Consumer Sciences

Department/Program Overview:
The Department Of Family And Consumer Sciences is one of four academic departments within the School Of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. The department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in four program areas with the following six distinct specialty emphases: child development and family studies (non-licensure), child development early education and family studies (birth-kindergarten licensure), family and consumer sciences education, fashion merchandising and design, food and nutritional sciences (dietetics) and food and nutritional sciences (food science). The Food and Nutritional Sciences program has an accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics. Additionally, the department offers a Master of Science degree in food and nutritional science and a Master of Arts in Teaching in family and consumer sciences education. Faculty members are actively engaged in research that contributes to the body of knowledge in the areas of nutrition, food science, housing, apparel, textiles and family issues.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching undergraduate courses in Fashion Merchandising and Design, advising and mentoring students, participating in curriculum development; collaborating with faculty on research and creative scholarship activities; serving on departmental, school and university committees and participating in other academic functions. This is a 9-month, tenure-track appointment.


Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Fashion Merchandising and Design or a closely related field from an accredited university; demonstrated ability to teach courses related to consumer textiles, apparel product development, marketing and distribution, historic costume and consumer behavior; experience with student advising and mentoring; strong technology skills related to design and merchandising, documented record of scholarly achievement and grant writing experience.
