North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State
University invites applications and nominations
for the position of Dean of the School of
Nursing. As an 1890 land grant university and
one of the 16 constituent institutions of the
University of North Carolina (UNC), North
Carolina A&T State University is a “high
research activity” institution that offers 89
BS, 42 MS and 5 PhD degree programs. With a
student body in excess of 11,000 and a faculty
of 584, North Carolina A&T offers academic
programs through the Colleges of Arts and
Sciences and Engineering, and the Schools of
Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Business
and Economics, Education, Nursing, Technology,
and Graduate Studies. The University is
accredited by the Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools (SACS), and its strategic
vision emphasizes interdisciplinary programs and
scholarly activities in a learner-centered
community promoting collaborative learning,
discovery and engagement (for more information,

expanding of the School of Nursing are critical
to the realization of this vision. The School
of Nursing has 25 full-time faculty members and
180 nursing majors, offers the baccalaureate
degree in nursing and is fully accredited by the
National League for Nursing. The body of
knowledge for nursing is derived from nursing
theories, research, and clinical practice.
North Carolina A&T’s School of Nursing extends
that body of knowledge by providing a foundation
for graduate preparation in nursing and lifelong
practice. This is an exceptional opportunity

The Dean is the chief academic and
administrative officer for the School of
Nursing, reporting to the Provost and Vice
Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Additional

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The Dean is expected to provide visionary
leadership and strategic management to foster
excellence in the operations, productivity, and
continued improvement of the Nursing Program.
Leadership and management responsibilities
include the following: the administration of
instructional and research programs, budgetary
management, faculty development, human resource
management, grantsmanship and fundraising,
evaluation and assessment of educational
programs, and developing and maintaining high
academic standards for the community of scholars
in the School.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will exhibit a strong
commitment to scholarship and excellence in
health care areas, possess a distinguished
record of scholarly accomplishments in a
collaborative interdisciplinary environment, and
possess appropriate credentials for professional
nursing. Strong and innovative leadership
abilities and an earned doctorate in nursing or
a related field, (with a M.S. in Nursing) and at
least five years of full-time teaching and
administrative leadership in a baccalaureate
and/or Master’s program are required. The
successful applicant must be eligible for
licensure in the State of North Carolina. The
successful candidate must also have academic
qualifications sufficient to support appointment
at the rank of Professor, including significant
research experience. Successful and substantive
record of experience in obtaining and
administering funding grants for research,
scholarly or creative activity.
