Department/Program Overview:
Located near the center of west campus, F. D.
Bluford Library is the intellectual heart of the
university providing a place for interaction,
collaboration, study and reflection. In
addition to a 24-hour 5-day a week schedule,
users have access to services such as group and
individualized library instruction, virtual
reference, document delivery and electronic
course reserves. The facility offers wireless
access throughout the four levels, study rooms
to encourage group collaboration and access to
laptop and desktop computers. The library
maintains a balanced collection of print and
non-print materials with an ever growing
collection of electronic databases, e-journals
and e-books.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Working with a reference staff of four (4) or
more, under the direction of the Head of
Reference and Information Literacy, the
librarian will share duties to include:
providing references services and participating
in an active information literacy program,
teaching both introductory and specialized
sessions using print and electronic information
sources; playing a contributory role in the
individualized instruction and workshops
program; developing library instructional tools
both online and print; maintaining current
awareness in use of emerging library
technologies. Will serve as a subject area
bibliographer and liaison with one (1) or more
academic departments. Evening and weekend work
required.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Library or Information
Science from an ALA-approved program; effective
oral and written communication skills; knowledge
of traditional and electronic reference
resources; strong computer skills; strong
service orientation and the ability to work
cooperatively in a collegial environment.
Preferred: Experience in reference work and
library instruction in an academic library.

Salary: Commensurate with training and experience. This
is a twelve-month tenure-track appointment with
faculty rank, state or optional retirement
program, group health and life insurance, and 24
days of annual leave.
