The Department of Journalism and Mass
Communication at North Carolina A&T State
University invites applications and nominations
for the Department’s first News & Record-Janice
Bryant Howroyd Endowed Professorship. The
Department seeks to fill the position at the rank of associate or full
professor.
The
Department offers bachelor's degrees in
journalism and mass communication with
concentrations in print journalism, broadcast
production, public relations, media management,
and electronic media and journalism. It has
up-to-date computer laboratories and
state-of-the-art broadcast and
multi-media-production facilities. With over 400
majors, JOMC is one of the largest in the
College of Arts and Sciences.
The program is accredited
by the Accrediting Council on Education in
Journalism and Mass Communication.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Persons considered should expect to (1)
teach courses in
journalism and mass communication; (2) undertake
initiatives in instruction and research in the
field; (3) report the results of their
initiatives in peer-reviewed scholarly outlets
and other avenues; (4) apply the results of the
initiatives in service to the department,
college, university, professional, and general
communities; and (5) serve as mentor to junior
faculty and advisor of students; and (6)
contribute to the incorporation of converged
media studies into the curriculum.
Qualifications
Candidates preferably should have the Ph.D.
and a record of superlative contributions in
print journalism practice and/or journalism and
mass communication scholarship. Those with the
master’s degree should have a long career of
progressively more extensive contributions,
greater responsibility, and/or higher
recognition in the field, as well as a record of
contributions to scholarship in the field. The
department especially welcomes candidates who
have made significant contributions to at least
one of these areas: (1) “new” media; (2)
journalism/mass communication and
culture/ethnicity. The best candidates have
achieved national or international distinction.
