Department/Program Overview:
The School of Agriculture and
Environmental Sciences (SAES) at N.C. A&T State
University has four purposes, campus-based
academic programs, research, extension and
public service. SAES has a rich history of
innovation dissemination and application of
cutting-edge technology in achieving its
purposes, from the pioneering Laboratory Animal
Science and Landscape Architecture programs to
award-winning Cooperative Extension and
Agricultural Research programs. The Agricultural
Research and Cooperative Extension Programs
research issues of importance to North Carolina
and provide research-based outreach training to
citizens across the state and around the world.
The Small Farm Unit at CEFS (Center for
Environmental Farms Systems) is a key component
of SAES that permits it to achieve its purposes
in the eastern region of the state.
Primary Duties and
Responsibilities:
Assist staff and management with
the education programs, includes working with
apprentices and interns, visitors and other
partners interested in the connection of small
farms with local food systems. Participate in
the design, planning, implementation and
evaluation of outreach programs Arrange and lead
tours for groups/individuals that would like to
visit CEFS. Outreach to the Goldsboro community
including farmers, community groups, schools,
etc. Develop 3 targeted in-depth workshops per
year that includes special outreach to
underserved groups. Develop and conduct the
Discover Ag Program to connect local school
children with the Small Farm Unit. Connect with
small and limited resource producers in the area
and develop training opportunities for them at
CEFS. Help the farm manager and researchers with
the Small Farm Unit database of research and
rotation systems on the Small Farm Unit and
appropriate records for organic certification
and other certification systems as warranted.
Qualifications:
Must be able to design, plan, implement and
evaluate- reporting on extension and research
activities on the Small Farm Unit at CEFS in
collaboration with the farm manager, researchers
and extension faculty, so as to provide outreach
to farmers and the Goldsboro community. Must be
able to work under extremely warm or cold
weather conditions to be able provide successful
leadership that must achieve all objectives.
Able to use a variety of equipment to implement,
monitor and manage enterprises and research in
the small farm unit. Knowledge of social science
as it pertains to agriculture and community.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Microsoft/web skills, Ability to lead students,
teachers, and extension faculty in field
activities.
Education - A masters degree is required in an
agricultural, social science, adult education or
similar field.

Extension educators in four basic areas. You are

qualified. All Extension Agent positions
require: a Bachelor's degree with a cumulative
grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 in
the major field of study (based on a 4.0 scale),
or completion of a Master's degree; a personal
automobile and valid driver's license; computer
literacy; strong oral and written communication
skills; the ability to plan, implement, market,
and evaluate educational programs; willingness
to work as a team member and support a total
Extension program; and the ability to handle
multiple demands and set priorities. For all
Extension Agent positions, a Master's degree is
preferred.

Successful candidates for Agent
positions will receive one-year fixed term
appointments for program responsibilities; and
successful candidates for County Extension
Director positions will receive one-year fixed
term appointments for program responsibilities
and "at-will" appointments for administrative
responsibilities. The term appointments are
subject to renewal in accordance with North
Carolina State University policy.
