North Carolina  Agricultural and Technical State University is a comprehensive university and land-grant institution offering degrees at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels.

Its instructional programs are organized into a college of arts and sciences, college of engineering, and six professional schools (agricultural, business and economics, education, nursing, technology, and graduate studies).

OVERVIEW

The Employee Relations function was created to assess, design, develop, and implement programs and policies to enhance employee morale and well-being. Programs are intended to reach a diverse community comprised of faculty, staff, and students. The position provides assistance with the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Recognition, Wellness, and the Employee Suggestion System.

The composition of the nations' work force is changing dramatically. These changes affect the needs of the University's work force. More women are working than ever before, our work force is aging, and increased levels of stress are impacting employees and their families.

These demographic changes lead to an increased demand for family-sensitive policies benefits, and work environments. Issues of child care, personal problems, and wellness are no longer considered just personal issues for employees to deal with on their own. Programs are designed to provide employees with information and resources to assist them in these areas.

In order to address these issues and ensure a more stable, productive work force, employers are instituting "family-friendly" policies and programs, including wellness programs. In addition, increased, visible recognition of employees' performance and contributions in the work place is another method of increasing productivity and improving morale.
