Criminal Background
Check
It is the policy of North
Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University to
require a Criminal Conviction Check on all employees hired. A criminal record does not
necessarily eliminate you from employment with the
University. Each conviction will be reviewed with
respect to the offense, circumstances, seriousness, and
the position for which you apply.

of North Carolina, which require a more extensive
background process to be handled directly by the Campus
Police Department.
Positions requiring a
commercial driver’s license (CDL) are designated as
"safety-sensitive" as defined by the Department of
Transportation (DOT) Drug and Alcohol Regulations.
Applicants for safety sensitive positions must also
submit to drug and alcohol testing prior to employment,
in accordance with University policies.
Employees are
paid monthly by direct deposit to a financial
institution of their choice.
For those
positions subject to the overtime provisions
(non-exempt) of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), our
policy is to provide time off for overtime hours
whenever possible, by awarding compensatory time (on a 1
and ½ hour compensatory time for one (1) hour overtime
basis) as provided at the employee’s discretion if
reasonable notice is given and if such use does not
unduly disrupt operations. Upon separation from North
Carolina A&T State University (or at any other time at

Time-Limited Appointments
A time-limited appointment
is an appointment that has a limited duration.
Employees in
time-limited positions are not eligible for severance pay or
re-employment priority upon separation or expiration of appointment
unless the appointment extends beyond three years.
When someone moves from one
state agency to another or changes divisions or
departments within an agency, it is considered a
transfer. Transfers may involve a promotion,
reassignment, demotion or lateral move. Your leave
credits and retirement account go with you. Your
personnel file is also transferred to your new agency.
Temporary appointments
vary depending on departmental needs. Temporary
employment may be terminated at any time. Employees with
a temporary appointment do not receive leave, total
state service credit, health benefits, retirement
credit, severance pay, or priority reemployment
consideration.
